This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

Umm... OK? 4Kids isn't "BURN BOOKS BURN WRITING" Simple words that are out for little detail seem appropriate.

Seriously guys, you hate 4Kids way too much. Give them some breathing room, they dub anime to be based for kids. if you hate it so much watch the original Japanese version.

Actually spunit, broadcast and standards will often ask that words and numbers be removed, even things like the toilet sign and numbers on shirts. I work in TV, I deal with BS&P all the time, I know :)

So nice try kid, but you totally miss the point. The networks have most of the control over what can and can't be seen, and every network varies significantly. It is all subjective work and some channels (such as Kids WB) go WAY too far.

Something about FCC rules barring blatant advertising during television shows. Showing actual scans of the cards on the show violates that rule. Frickin' Americans.

I don't wanna be sued by soccer moms either so I agree with you. And I happen to like (all 3) versions of Yu-Gi-Oh!
The 4kids version has its awesomeriffic moments ^_^. And I love their voice actors.Especially Dan Green, Wayne Grayson,Eric Stuart, & lotsa others^^. But the only 4kids cesor I don't get is Yugi's mom. She's super special awesome! Without her, we wouldn't have Yugi! Even if she hardly looks like him XD. But still. I don't get it. By the way I find all of the before & after images interesting! Especially "Evil 5 Joey XD"

I always liked the opening to dub piece because it explained what that hell was going on in the show better than the recap page in Shonen Jump. Untill then I had no cule what why the show was called. One Piece Then again I stated reading at issue 14 or so. I also find the rap cute and positive unlike most rap music. I don't really get why people aways seem so made about edits. I usally find them funny as hell.

WTF is wrong with the number 5?
I mean, if it said 666 on his shirt, but 5???

Also, you know the gay clown stabbing yugi in the movie? That would have been censored in the show.

I have to say that Yami getting stabbed in the movie was a shocker. Ever notice that the kiba corp logo on the blue eyes white dragon jet it backwards? Now there is careless editing if you ask me.

Depends. If they wanted the jet to be semmetrical, then the Kaiba Corp Logo would be backwards on one side.

I think for the movie, they wanted to add in something for the adults too, since they figured a lot of kids would be dragging their parents along to watch the movie with them, and thus you have extra violence and language (Kaiba saying "Cut the friendship bull..." was probably the highlight of the actual movie). Obviously, they failed horribly since they added a bunch of stupid fart jokes and Yami getting his heart stabbed by a...er, 3D image.

only we always see the same side of the jet. During take off it's ok but once in flight the logo switches. It's quite likly that the flim was fiped in post, that means they drew the jet flying in the wrong direction.

No matter how much we B and moan about 4Kids, most of it IS the FCC's fault.

But 4Kids chooses not to release uncut DVDs and replace the original music of their shows. So they can continue to rot in bloody hell for all I care.

whatever 4kids never makes sense anyway. im suprised YGO got away with the shadow realm.

UM so when someone is supposed to die, instead they are sent to the "shadow realm", which is SO much better than dieing, and more happy..in a way? (like, in this one episode some duelists are supposed to fall through the shattering glass to their deaths after a duel in Japanese, but in the 4kids dub, they make the scene all glowy and are sent to the shadow realm..)

I wonder tho was the Seal of Orichalchos changed at all? does any one have any pictures to prove that is wasn't?

and I was about 16 when I saw the YGO movie (I was with my friend and her little bro and sis cause they couldn't be alone and it gave us reason so see it) and right after wards all the little kids were saying bull and 'I want a white wine spritser' and my friends little sister said it and I was a bit of a drinker and told her I would maker her one when we got home....... I soon found my self in pain.

buy anyway ya the movie did more mental damage.

but I used to get pissed at 4kids but after seeing the movie and seeing the age of the children there most were about 3-10.... there quite young. and I kinda just gave up my grudge.

They did release the uncut DVDs for a very short term, but they stopped for some reason, so we're not sure if it's really that they don't want to release or that they can't release them.

Also, 4kids has some of the best music in the dubbing business. A lot of the English Pokemon songs 4kids made was on par with, and sometimes even better (Like for Pokemon Season 4) than the Japanese ones.

The shadow realm is all they can do, really. Death is something that occurs in real life. Weird ancient Egyptian voodoo that sends you into eternal confinement is not. They want to shield the younger children from the ideas of death, I suppose (Which is kind of silly since kids have their pets and such die all the time, but a lot of the time the parents lie to the kid anyway so they don't feel too bad). Kids know that the shadow realm is not real. But death definitely is, so that's probably why they edited it like that.

Come on people, they have to have a reason for doing this really mundane stuff. Do you seriously they all sit in a room and go "Hur hur lets make the anime suck more than the Japanese version so we can piss off the fans."

I could provide a screenshot if you want (little lazy right now), but I've watched some of those crappy Hong Kong subtitled YuGiOh episodes (But since I have a working vocabulary of Japanese it wasn't that bad) and as far as I know, the seal of Orichalchos stayed the same. The symbol isn't exactly the star of david, even though it's very similar, so I don't think it would've been that big a deal.

Exactly. As far as censoring when you're making things for little kids (And plenty of irresponsible parents will leave their children to watch things unmonitored), it's probably better safe than sorry. I'm sure a lot of the kids that watched YuGiOh were still impressionable enough for the uncut version to have affected them.

no its all right just wanted to know if they changed it at all I'll take your word for it unless you want to post them.

yes its like sponge bob or billy and mandy. I would rather give kids drugs then let them watch it. but some parents let them watch it and they aren't' smart enough to see all the little things. but I do with they would sell an uncensored one. but then some dumb ass parents would buy it and sue. so I guess its subtitles for me. I thing the editing is good for the kids and its still entertaining for us older people. to laugh at and get into the story.

It's the parents who are too busy to give a darn that fuel the idiocy fire.

"OMG they represented death in a non-violent and harmless way! I'm gonna sue!"

It's the spoiled attitude that nothing is ever their fault, it's always someone else's.

It's the same thing with movies and video games, parents complain about content, when they were the stupid morons who bought them for their kids in the first place, despite the fact that they are properly rated and labeled.[/rant]

Eh, sorry about that.

GameBuddy, Most people wouldn't give a darn your right. But it only takes one person to sue then BAM they're in big trouble.

they removed the word "coffee" on a cup in one piece if memory serves right. so im guessing that they think COFFEE IS BAD FOR KIDS

That one is probably just lazy editing. They wanted to take off the japanese symbols, but I guess they got lazy and just removed all of them.

In my opinion, the worst editing was the re-design for Zorc. i mean what the hell? They totally killed the whole "phallic shaped dragon head" by redrawing the whole front of the character. WTF? And what sucks even more, i recently saw a clip from a pokemon episode, and Team Rocket was using guns on harmless civilians. Is 4kids freaking kidding??!! A mature anime can't use handguns (in maybe 3 or 4 episode per season), but a japanese show that younger kids mainly watch can have the antagonists holding these said weapons? And even worse, adding glowy blobs whenever a holographic monster is stabbed and/or cut in half is just plain stupid, gawd...

I thought the Orichalchos Season was just made as a filler just as the Kaiba's grand prix or something like that, however I'm not completely sure.

I wouldn't exactly call YGO all that mature *cough* Then again, I was watching Hellsing while my friends were watching Digimon, so I could have twisted priorities...

Anyway, you watched the 'international edition' I suppose, because I'm very sure that particular episode never made public broadcast. In America anyway.

Also, I would like to point out [url=http://www.pokemopolis.net>that Pokemon isn't just for kids either
The standards for children's television and young adult to adult television is very vague in Japan. While I was in Tokyo, I watched the completely insane Hard Gay show (an ex-light weight pro wrestler in bondage leather wear) playing with kids and their teachers at the side smiling as if he were nothing more than a guy in a clown or dinosaur suit.

Anyway, I'm kinda surprised at just how much 4Kids does censor YGO. I admit I never knew since Singapore gets our own dubbed version (don't ask why). It's an unedited from the Japanese broadcast, meaning we get the original opening themes and ending themes, and as far as I know, only the voices are different. We prolly have less edits as wells if any.

The voices suck btw. Very much. Oh SO much...

I think 4Kids is fine though. Their voice actors are really fantastic, and when the producers aren't watching, I can appreciate the jokes they write into the script. Before TAJ Productions took over Pokemon after Season 8, the show was peppered with innuendo that I just loved figuring out

It's almost just like that one episode of YGO GX, when it sounded like LittleKuriboh was writing the show (you can find it on Youtube), except all the jokes were created mostly in-character and not breaking the 4th wall in Pokemon.

OMG, Byakko you like Hellsing too! Yay for Hellsing fans! Anyway, what I meant about mature was: which is more mature yugioh or pokemon? and not in Japanese, in the American version (Japanese version is always better). In that case, I consider yugioh to be more mature. That is, as mature as you can get while playing card games for half the freaking episodes... Also, the "guns" actually did appear in American broadcast, look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E98Dmk6xoOE&mode=related&search=
Look at what James is holding (not to mention that weird cannon that would also have been edited out of the yugioh dub). And its not the voice actors that I hate, just the company that edits everything out. On other news, thats great that you get an unedited version in your country, lucky.
