Unplugged Expo Toronto 2016-Post Convention Report
Unplugged Expo from October 15-16, 2016 in Toronto, ON at http://unpluggedexpo.com/
It was a return to this multiple fandom convention. It’s in a different location that was more in the centre of Toronto this year spread over 2 days now. It was one show but it was the return of Improv Against Humanity for a Late Night show with The 404s on the Saturday night! An intimate crowd that began with 50 attendees with 30 plus staying the entire 2 hour show that ended just before midnight came to see the antics and many gave praise post show which was nice too. Some of the new “Nuggets” in training for The 404s got to debut as well as both on stage and for music as they shined as well in their various scenes from the Dating Game to Look/Look Away. The crowd even got a surprise treat with the Minefield D4 game at the end. The raucous crowd had a blast with lots of great, creative scene suggestions as well. I personally had fun doing Lip Sync Battle this year. I chose to do Weird Al’s “Like a Surgeon” that got over as one of the praised prop-based performances. I didn’t make the finals but it was a fun time as I’ve enjoyed the original SPIKE TV show and this version in its 2nd year with its own twist run by Shelle-Chi at https://www.youtube.com/user/bubblesdubeau did a fine job with her crew in holding the event! The finalists were great too with a duo winning it all. Here is their vlog about it all, which has a link to their performance that I recorded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxaBkwz8Z-o Other things I got to visit included the Harry Potter Room of Requirement run by The Spell Tutor group at http://thespelltutor.com It was a nicely decorated room with banners, artwork, posters and more while people got to do events like try the magical candy, making crafts and more. The Anime Improv Abridged Series panel was in there later on hosted by Antfish from Team Four Star at http://teamfourstar.com/ He’s a great dude with a humble reproach to the projects he’s involved with that are expanding with Little Kuriboh and others. I caught some of the YTV PJs Reunion with Carlos, Phil and Paul, who have or were hosts of their live segments between shows to talk about all sorts of topics with the young viewers and do skits and contests too. While in line for the Dante Basco autograph I got as part of my bounty of finds there was a Vocaloid concert visible on the main stage as the autograph line and Dealers Room/Artist Alley was all in 1 location. It was an overall fun event to hang out with fans, friends and guests overall. BOUNTY OF FINDS -A Moon Pie you can only get from the USA and some Grape Hi-Chew from Wasaga Beach’s Lollipop Lollipop store. http://www.pentalocal.ca/on/wasaga-b...ipop-lollipop/ -Karate Fight the Card Game signed by character model/cosplayer guest Marie-Claude Bourbonnais. http://mcbourbonnais.com/en/home/ -Two Hinata Hyuga from Naruto fan artworks and a Yami Yugi of Yu-Gi-Oh! magnet made by Marie Jane Works at http://MarieJaneWorks.com -From Skyfox Games another Mythical Pokémon collection with the Keldeo set. -The coolest thing was a photo and autograph of my hardcover of Avatar: The Last Airbender-The Promise comic that I got from the Anime North Charity auction a bit ago autographed by Dante Basco. I had missed him at the last Con-G when I wasn’t available and he did recall the convention too. As always, I collect all videos of the Eastside 404s shows that can be found on the current ongoing Video Play Set at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...aTYziAt6quFRQh on my channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/trigunkwan Check out this regularly updated public photo album of my convention photos (the newest photos are at the end pages of the album) at: http://www.crunchyroll.com/showphotoalbum?id=10061028 The latest events and links to The 404s can be found as well at the main website at http://the404s.com/ as well as their many social media outlets like their YouTube videos at https://www.youtube.com/user/the404s Thanks for reading and enjoying the convention report! |
