This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

@Roseleaf

Interesting point. I think it's clear that the genderbend versions wouldn't be exactly like their male/female counterparts. It would be interesting to see a well done fem!Kaiba version... I don't think that s/he would be such a "bitch".

I was working on some character sheets for them after being reminded of this thread last night. For some reason, I don't think fem!Kaiba would be as cool and collected as male Kaiba- I think she would be a bit more expressive, more willing to show things like surprise, happiness (Happiness? In MY Kaiba?!?), and the more positive emotions which I'm sure Seto has, even if he doesn't show them, because really, it's unrealistic to think any human is cold and snarky 100% of the time. I also think she would bottle up her anger instead of making snide remarks (usually aimed at Jou), just because I think that's the way Gouzaburo would raise a girl- to be very proper and lady like- not that it would stick very well once she grew up.

You dared to say the forbidden word in combination with Kaiba... any version of Kaiba. XD

I wonder if Gozaburo has adopted her in the first place. A lot of people tend to write him as some kind of chauvinist, but I try to get away from that picture. Makes it too easy.

There's nothing sexist about Kaiba's canon behavior towards women.

And there's no reason why the personalities wouldn't still be a same regardless of gender. They would still be the same person. Just different sexual organs, and she might be a bit more emotional, but that's because of more estrogen in the body. But there's plenty of aggressive, snide, and confident women out there, so I don't see her having some 180 personality change because of boobs and a vag.

Jonouchi as a woman has always interested me~

I agree with Allison. Genderbending doesn't change the person's brain, save for hormones. (Well, it could also change some past experiences, theoretically.)

Now there's an idea - fem!Gozaburo.

I would die to see fanart of genderbend Gozaburo.

Mhm, neither Roseleaf nor I were saying that they're completely different.
For me It's a matter of education and how they're treated by society, relatives, friends etc. and I think that could change with the gender. I don't think that Kaiba would lose his main character traits but he would have other experiences and they shaped his character as well. I know sience and bla bla but social sience is a sience after all. And I wouldn't underestimate the power of education, let it be positive or negative.

And now... could somebody try to draw fem!Gozaburo? Or do I really have to try it. XD

I would too. Omg. Maybe I'll draw it.

As for the effect of gender, it would change some of the canonical events, perhaps, if all of the genders were swapped. (male!Anzu hanging out with a bunch of girls, what a playa.) My view is that since canon is canon, the events would have happened like that anyway, so the characters would need to be built around what's already established, just like normal fanfiction is. This leaves some room for adjustment in personalities but not much.

Whenever I genderbend, I bend everyone. It's just weird to me if only a few of them are bent.
It would be interesting to see how gender would affect their personalities, however, I don't think they would change that much. They'd still be the same person, after all.

Ah okay. I'm not so much into genderbending and when I think about it, it's not canon anyway. I was more thinking about... for example when Jou would be a girl, would she has joined a gang, would her mother has left her alone with a drunk father ... ?

Do it! Draw him, I mean her!

It's "science".

And Japan does have some differences when it comes to gender roles, but as gifted as Kaiba is mentally, it wouldn't impede her at all. She would still be a genius and people would still want to use that to their advantage.

I certainly don't genderbend in my writing, but I do agree that it's a fun mental exercise :P

Actually the only genderbend character I thought about more was Gozaburo. But mostly to figure out what's just 'him' and what parts of his worldview could be caused because he's male or female in the genderbend version.

Ah, I await the day when parents stop buying their little girls puppets and their boys cars as toys.

There's a reason for that. Girls generally are more attracted to toys with color and boys, toys with motion. It's a scientific fact, and just another example of you trying to go all "social justice" on shit you don't know anything about.

I love gendbend for writing purposes, but it is a load of crack. My guilty pleasure, and I've written Kaiba as a woman before in stories and right now I'm doing Katsuya. Which is funny, because his name is actually a girl's, so it kinda fits.

for some reason when I picture a Gendbend Gozaburo I picture Meryl Streep's character from the Devil wears Prada.

but that is an awesome pic, FP, kind of reminds me of Janice Dickinson

@gcar90

Thanks. Yeah, I'm not so happy with the face, but I'm not an artist. It was just herp derp. It's funny how different s/he looks like when the hair falls into the face. I need to practice more.

fem!Gozaburo I don't believe would be a particularly attractive woman, but seeing Fluffy's drawing makes me smile :)

Although I did realize over dinner that a young, attractive, and feminized Gozaburo Kaiba could look something like Carmen Sandiego without the fedora.

Fluffy, If I may make a small edit.

I wanted to draw him like that first, but she doesn't look like Gozaburo at all. As I said, I didn't want to draw a top model or Dickinson, it's her or? XD Great edit, thanks :)

DAMMIT Who the hell brought back the picture of Fem!Gozaburo? *murdermurdermurder*
Waitwait let me specify that it's a very good drawing- nicely done, Fluffy. But...that doesn't change the fact that it makes me shudder. Not really sure why...I think it's the whip. Implies bad things, and considering I hate that character...

Maybe. Yugioh girls' hair tends to not spike out in every direction like Dartz, Yugi, etc., but instead be drawn rather straight down to their mid-back (except Anzu). Also of course the shape of the face would be different, and he would not be drawn to be as large of a person (not as tall, not as much muscle mass, etc.)
